Born in 1970 to an English father and a German-Jewish mother who came to England on the Kindertransport in July 1939, Richard Aronowitz grew up with three older brothers in rural Gloucestershire. He studied for a BA in German language and literature at Durham University; an MA in art history at the Courtauld Institute, London University; and an MSt in literature and art at Oxford University. Richard is Global Head of Restitution at Christie’s auction house in London and has worked in the international art world for thirty years. He lives in Oxford.

Richard began his writing career as a poet and he has had his poetry published in The Guardian and The Independent newspapers in the U.K., as well in many leading literary journals, including The London Magazine and Stand.

Some of his poems have also been shortlisted for the prestigious single-poem prizes the Bridport Prize (1999) and the Troubadour International Poetry Prize (2014, 2016) His poetry was anthologised in Anvil New Poets 3 in 2001 and his debut poetry collection Life Lessons came out in 2019.

Richard’s novels are Five Amber Beads (2006), It’s Just the Beating of my Heart (2010), An American Decade (2017) and Night Comes Down, which is due to be released in 2025.
